Influenza - Symptoms & Treatment

By genelia at 2009-12-17 03:31:54
Influenza is a common contagious disease with flu-like symptoms. Influenza is caused by a sphere or filament-shaped virus. The most problematic part of these viruses is that they keep on changing. Such mutated virus strains can adversely affect a person even though that person had immunity to another strain of the influenza virus.

There are three different kinds of Influenza viruses: Influenza A, Influenza B, and Influenza C. Influenza A can attack animals and humans, the remaining two (Influenza B and Influenza C) can only attack humans. Influenza C causes a very mild infection and does not provoke epidemics.

Symptoms of influenza

The infection is sometimes confused with common cold but its symptoms are more severe than typical sneezing. Infection of influenza lasts for about a week and sometimes more. It is characterized by sudden onset of high fever, muscle ache, feeling chills, body ache, headache, severe malaise, sore throat, rhinitis and non-productive cough.

What causes Influenza - Flu: The Flu is caused by the Influenza virus. Health professionals classify the virus as influenza type A and type B, each of which includes strains. These strains are different from the original virus but retain some of it's characteristics.

The first step in influenza treatment is prevention itself. This is done via vaccination as well as avoidance, if possible, of affected people. A person may be contagious at least a day before they start showing symptoms, until a week after.

Influenza treatment for flu relief is more effective when using homeopathic/herbal remedies than anything else. Over the past 32 years in practice, I have seen this time and time again, consistently.

The best treatment for influenza is antiviral therapy. There are several antiviral therapies available and the choice of an agent depends on the doctor. Most of these agents come in oral form but one is used as an inhalant.

The best way to cure influenza is to go for hot foot baths, and gargle if one suffers from sore throat. Many people take a tea spoonful of raw and unadulterated mustard oil to get back the normal voice. If one experiences mild fever, one can simply take the precaution of not bathing in cold water.

You need to follow some effective home remedies for the influenza symptoms. First, you need all the bed rest you can get in order to recuperate from the illness without difficulty. It is also imperative to boost your immune system by taking nutritional supliments and or citrus fruits and juices.

The favorite remedy was Gelsemium for that flu and some used Bryonia as well. The following suggestions come from an ebook I authored.. "Homeopathic/Herbal Prevention and Cures":

Another quirky keynote of Aconite is the onset of symptoms after a dry wind. We get a lot of hot, dry winds here in Western Australia in the summer, and many people's asthma gets worse then. Aconite may not cure the asthma, but it will alleviate the symptoms that are brought on by the dry wind.

There are many natural and nutritional supplements, like Colloidal Silver that help fight flu. Vitamin A and beta - carotene enhances the immune system when a person has flu or influenza. Beta-carotene, which is a forerunner of Vitamin A, is an anti-oxidant that helps the body to fight the influenza virus.

Protein intake: Lean meat, poultry, fish, legumes, eggs, and nuts and seeds are good sources of protein. (Though dairy is a good source of protein, it has been found to aggravate symptoms like skin lesions, runny nose and chest congestion in some.) Your anti-bodies are made of protein.

Echinacea is an important herb used to treat different influenza and is also a natural swine flu prevention. It works by treating infections and increasing the body's resistance against bacteria. It is only meant for short term use.
