Itching is a symptom of several conditions of the skin such as eczema, scabies, ringworm, allergies, etc. When the skin is inflamed, the nerves in it become hyperactive. This increases the irritation at the region, which we try to remove by itching.
General itching that occurs all over the body is a problem. The reason why it should raise concerns are that when an itch is not localized, there is a strong indication that more than one organ of the body is being affected. When the arms itch, a more common cause of it is atopic eczema. This is especially true of itching that occurs in the creases of the elbows. The common causes of itching in the legs stem from the same reasons as itching in the arms.
What causes itching:
Sweating is the main itch precursor during the summer months. When you find yourself sweating, do not let the sweat sit on your skin.
Likewise, low oil production from the sebaceous glands dry-out the skin and can cause flakes that clog and enlarge follicle pores.
Natural treatment for itching:
A salt free diet is the best for itch; you can resume salt after you are cured. Take tomatoes and green gram for lunch and bread and green vegetables for dinner. In case green gram is not available, eat germinated gram.
Babul (Acacia arabica): The bark of the babul is effective in controlling skin problems. It is most beneficial in the treatment of itching caused due to eczema.
Cool the itching areas. Instead of scratching, use cool compresses, they are more effective than scratching and don't leave any effects. Use the cloth compress on the itching area for 10 minutes every hour to be itch-free.
Use a mild detergent without dye or harsh chemicals. Remember your clothing spends many hours a day rubbing against your skin.
Mix linseed oil in equal parts of lemon juice. Apply this on the region where itching is severe. This remedy works for treating almost all types of itching.
Dust mites do not die easily. Once you have protected the bed itself, you will need to change your sheets, pillow cases etc at least one time every week. When you do this you also need to clean them in a different way than normal.
Before washing, in order to get the dust mites out, you will need to either boil the bed clothes for an hour or then wash. A second option is to freeze the beddings for at least 7 hours before washing. Doing one of these activities will get them out.
Use anti-itch creams or lotions. Several anti-itch creams and lotions are available on the market. Some of these lotions work by killing fungi and other bacteria that take root in your skin, causing you to itch. Some, like menthol and camphor, numb the nerve endings on your skin, which deadens your skin to the itching.
Bath salts further boast energetic prowess to combat and stop itching. If you are itching and you use bath salts as a treatment, you will find that the itch relief begins immediately and also that within the space of 7 minutes, the itching would have been stopped completely.
