Teens may withdraw from family, friends, and activities; they may spend a lot of time in their rooms. A sense of deep sadness and of hopelessness, like nothing is going to get better for them may exist. They may feel like they are unable to attain their goals.

A loss of interest in doing the things that they used to love to do can be depression. Now, this is not necessarily something from their childhood, but something within the past few months. Perhaps they enjoyed horseback riding and just stopped doing it within the last months.

The blues that last. While everyone feels bad sometimes, teens with depression feel bad most of the time. You need to get them some help in these cases.

Teens can become depressed over such things as peer pressure, school pressure, career planning, or any issue related to their confidence and self-esteem, such as coming to terms with the changing bodies.

Depression is a common emotional disorder in the United States and the good news is that there are good treatment options for treating teen depression. A therapist or counselor can help, along with medication. However, when teen depression gets to a point where it is disruptive or life-threatening, a therapeutic boarding school may be the answer.

By starting with your own child and in your family, you could contribute and help in lessening the huge numbers of teens today that easily give in to depression. Through your good relationship and expressive love to your child you could develop his mental ability and show others in your society the effects of good parenting and the proper management of mood disorder.

Depression is treatable. Child and teen depression therapy has been found to be effective in helping children and adolescents overcome the symptoms of depression. With counseling, children and teens soon learn that their feelings can change. There is hope for their future. Life can and will get better.

Make sure your child is active. Depression is no excuse for not making his bed or other chores or homework for that matter. Encourage them to be active, stay with them and try to bond more.

Coupled with the terrible appearances you would find that the teen has no interest in anything they previously liked - music, video games, TV shows, shopping, bullying their siblings, etc.

Disruptive family life, trauma and sexual abuse are some of the more common reasons why teens self-harm. It is their way of relieving the anger and inner turmoil that results from these disruptions. While it might appear to be a method to gain attention, cutting is actually something that teens do in private, away from view.
